Sanitation in Conakry: why occasional clean-up operations are not enough

MD Consulting Group analysis — September 11, 2026

In Conakry, sanitation problems are visible through waste accumulation, blocked drains, recurring hotspots and rainy-season flooding risks. What is visible on the street is only one part of a wider service chain.

Public authorities indicated in 2024 that the Dar-Es-Salam landfill was receiving between 1,200 and 1,800 tonnes of waste per day.

The problem begins before waste reaches the street

If a hotspot is removed without addressing pre-collection, collection, transfer, treatment and financing, it can quickly reappear.

Equipment alone is not enough

Vehicles and machinery are necessary, but their impact depends on routes, frequency, transfer points, maintenance, fuel, supervision and clear responsibility.

Direction of travel

MD Consulting Group views sanitation as a permanent urban service whose performance should be measured by municipality and neighbourhood.

We deliberately do not publish the full operational, financial or contractual model here; it must be built from real territorial data.
